On Dec. 18, 1929, she was married to Allen Cressman. Later they moved to the Guernsey, Sask., area. Surviving are her husband, 4 children (Noreen - Mrs. Alfred Polzin, Stanley, Glenn, and Beatrice - Mrs. Cleason Snyder), 10 grandchildren, one sister (Loretta - Mrs. Wesley Shantz), and 2 brothers (Clarence and Willard). The little girl was seriously ill about a year ago, from the effects of which she never fully recovered. She was a bright little girl and the pride of her parents, who have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad loss. | 69 | Donald "Don" V. Costa died Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the Marcella Center in Burlington. Born in New York City, Don was 80 years old. In 1958, he became an original resident of Willingboro. Don retired as a Navy Recruiter after 21 years of service. Don worked in numerous personnel departments for several companies, retiring in 1985. Don is predeceased by his loving wife of 29 years Dolores L. Costa. He is survived by his devoted, loving companion of 22 years, Ruth D. Phelan of Willingboro. Dear father of Michelle L. Cann (Charles J.) of Edgewater Park and James V. Costa (Gail M.) of Haddonfield. | 70 | Donald “Doc”Cameron Master, 94, passed away peacefully at his home, the Masterpeace, Tuesday, June 11, 2013 with his wife, Carolyn by his side in hospice management. Born October 31, 1918 in Weston, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late Oliver Master and Ethel Lillian Hutchison. Doc was a member of the Engle United Methodist Church. He earned his Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He retired after 66 years of practice. He was the Honorary member of the AVMN/ DC Academy of Veterinarian Medicine. Doc served as the Mayor of the City of Charles Town, WV for 22 years, 1968-1990. He was the President of the WV Municipal League in 1973, was a member of the Region 9 Development Authority, member of the Millbrook Orchestra Board, board member for ten years, board member of the former Country Day School and the honorary member of the original Harpers Ferry Cooking Club. He was a member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Doc built and flew his own plane, the BD-5 until his 80th birthday. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jones Master, at home, two sons, Peter Master and wife Loey of Eden, Prairie, MN, David Master and wife Sara of Reedville, WV, two daughters, Barbara Byars and husband Alan of Midland, TX and Mary Master of Costa, Rico, grandchildren, Beth Fenimore and husband Jason, Erin Master- Dill and husband Jeff, Alan Byers and wife Ciara, Megan Master and companion Kevin, great grandchildren, Keane, Devin and Emelia. He served as President of the Epworth League from 1893-1894 and was active in the Epworth League Assembly at Ludington, MI. The Epworth League Training Assembly purchased land along Lake Michigan in 1894 for a Methodist-Chautauqua type resort to provide spiritual and cultural programs. | 74 | Esther D. Oxley, 82, went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 7, 2005, after a short illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard G. Oxley. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Fehrman, Greenville, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cindy Oxley, Endicott. Esther dearly loved her grandchildren, Ryan, Joel and Heather Fehrman, Richelle, Zackary and Nolan Oxley; three brothers, William, Ward and Phillip Dahlgren; a sister, Mary Boyle. Over the years Esther worked as financial secretary at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, General Electric in Westover, Department of Social Services, and as librarian at Levene, Gouldin and Thompson. Esther was truly one of God's special children. She was happiest when with her family and her friends. She especially cherished her friends, Lillian Zodikoff and Roger Crayton. She loved "her" music, books, cooking and especially time with her grandsons, Zackary and Nolan. Esther will forever be remembered as the wife, mother, grandmother and friend who put all other's needs ahead of her own. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 83 Main St., Binghamton. The Rev. Stephen Heiss will officiate. Burial will be private at Vestal Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:30 until the time of the service. | 75 | Everatt, Edward.—Was born in Wildsworth, Lincolnshire, England, on August 12th, 1804, and died in Wilmot on December 19th, 1884. He came to Canada in 1833 with his wife and two daughters, Rachel and Eliza, his other children, Charles, John, Henry and Sophia being born in Canada and are well known in this vicinity. The Bennetts, Cornelius, Richard, James and Ann came with them to Canada. Edward Everatt and Cornelius Bennett took up the 200 acre farm at Haysville and built an hotel in 1834. In the barn of this hotel the first English Church service in Wilmot was held and carried on at the Everatt 's for a number of years until Thos. Johnson gave the land for the Pine Hill cemetery and built a Methodist Church there and Henry Puddicombe built the English Church, now called St. James', Huron Road. Mr. Rally succeeded Mr. Hickey and after he left, the English Church in Haysville was a thing of the past until the coming of Rev. Mr. Mellish, who started services in the Haysville Schoolhouse and at St. James' and Shakespeare. The foregoing Church history was furnished by Mr. Charles Everatt, of Baden, and is inserted here to shew how good authorities on those old times disagree, as several discrepencies between this and the main text are noted. The first Division Court in the Township of Wilmot was held in the Edward Everatt Hotel, Mr. Everatt being the first Clerk. The Court was afterwards moved to Wilmot Centre and Mr. Everatt handed the Clerkship over to the late Mr. John Allchin. This Court now sits at Baden, Captain F. H. McCallum, of New Hamburg, being the clerk. Mr. Charles, of Baden, and Miss Sophia, an invalid, are the only representatives of the family now in this neighborhood, the former being among those present at the anniversary (1913) at St. George's. -An Historical Sketch of the Parish of Wilmot 1828-1913, Charles James Fox, p. 59 The Church or religious life of Haysville may be divided into three periods. The first from 1830 to 1842 -when there wasn't any—the second from 1842 to 1866 w4ien with some irregularity, but in a broad sense, the Church of England and the Methodist Church endeavored to bring the gospel within hearing of the people, and from 1866 until the present day, during which period the Church of England has alone ministered to their spiritual needs. The Rev. Mr. Hickey, afterwards the first Rector, of Stratford, was the pioneer in the work here as he was at St. James, and commenced holding services in 1842 in the hotel barn of Mr. Edward Everatt, which was used for several years as a Church until the use of the old log schoolhouse previously mentioned, about a mile east of the present village, was obtained. | 80 | Fort Erie, Nov. 28 - William Richard Deeton, in his 67th year, died today at the home of his son-in-law, William K. Brown, after a brief illness, although he had previously been unwell for a long period. Mr. Deeton retired from active work several years ago as a travelling salesman for the Knechtel Furniture Company of Hanover with whom he had served for 20 years. He had resided in Fort Erie for about two and a half years, and previously lived in Port Colborne. The deceased was born in Plattsville, Ont. He was a member of the Masonic order and attended Memorial United church here. Survivors are his widow, Emma E.; a daughter, Mrs. W. K. Brown; and a son, Dr. Wm. L. Deeton of Cleveland, Ohio. | 82 | Funeral of Mrs. J. G. Wing this morning. The remains of the late Mrs. J. G. Wing, who passed away in Winnipeg, Man., last Thursday evening, arrived in Kitchener at an early our this morning and were removed to Schreiter's undertaking parlors. This morning a large number of friends of the deceased paid their last tribute of respect and viewed the remains after which they were conveyed to their last resting place at the New Dundee cemetery. The service at the grave was impressively conducted by Rev. C. A. Sykes, B. D., pastor of the Trinity Methodist Church, of which the late Mrs. Wing was a faithful member. The pall-bearers were Messers G. Harrison, G. Schleex [?], J. B. Weaver, A. Wesloh, T. W. Simpson and Chipman. The remains were accompanied from Winnipeg by Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Master. Gertrude Toman Gingerich, daughter of Manasseh and Elsie Toman, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Feb. 2, 1903; died at Watrous Hospital, Watrous, Sask., Jan. 8, 1929; aged 25 y. 11 m. 6 d. She was united in marriage to Addison Gingerich on Dec. 22, 1925. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and many other relatives and friends. In youth she accepted Christ and united with the Sharon Mennonite congregation, near Guernsey, Sask. Failing in health for several weeks, her condition was such that an operation was necessary, after which she lived only a few days. | 85 | GOSPEL HERALD - Vol. XXVIII, No. 36 - December 5, 1935, pages 766, 767. KNECHTEL. Sussannah, widow of the late Daniel L. Knechtel of Kitchener, Ont., died at her home Nov 13, 1935. She suffered considerably in her time, being at death's door a number of times. However, she bore all with the finest of Christian fortitude. Her perennial cheerfulness was one of her marked traits. Her steady faith in the Lord carried her through a multitude of hard experiences. She was the second oldest member of the First Mennonite Church of Kitchener. She was a faithful and highly esteemed member. Though frail, old, and her back bent to well nigh the thighs, she was loved and respected by the young, whose interests were always upon her heart. She will be greatly missed by pastor and members. She is survived by 4 sons and 1 daughter (Albert, Allen, and William, all of Kitchener; Jacob of Mannheim, and Mrs Albert Huffman of Kitchener); also 28 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren survive. Two services were held - one at her home church (Kitchener), the other at her church of earlier days (Mannheim). She was buried at the latter cemetery. The following brethren were in charge: C. F. But he can be found on the 1901 census having been born August 25, 1898. One possible explanation provided to me is that the gravestone was erected some time after William's death, and his death year (1904 - June 28 according to death record) was confused with the birth year. Fondly remembered by his sister Jenny Wilson (Australia) and her four daughters, and by his brother Vivian’s widow, Hetty Lamb-Bayliss (New Zealand) and their three sons and two daughters. Born in Oxfordshire, UK, on June 28, 1923, he immigrated to Canada in 1950, retiring from Mutual Life two decades later. Philatelist, gardener, birdwatcher, cricketer and charter member of Parkminster United Church, Richard succumbed to ailments diagnosed a month earlier.
