    • Newspaper Article, OSCEOLA COUNTY HEARLD, Oct 1914, "Golden Wedding", Golden Wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Joesph Sr., Celebrated Sunday, Married in Canada in '64, Came to Richmond Twp. Before Railroad Reached Big Rapids, Saw First Mill Erected and Watched Forests Being Converted into Finest of Farms. Fifty years ago last Sunday, Joseph Toman, Sr., believing that it was not good for man to live alone took unto himself a wife. His children thought that such an anniversary should not pass without some kind of an observance of same and decided to have a big family reunion. The word was passed around and shortly after the morning's work at the family home was done the sons and daughters and their children commenced to arrive and continued to do so until over forty children and grandchildren of this estimable couple, were on hand to help them pass the day. The event proved to be a most pleasing one to the aged people who will ever cherish the memories of the occasion. They were the recipients of numerous gifts among which were $5 gold pieces from each son and daughter present with the amount of the purse totaling the number of years of mother's and father's married life. All of the sons and daughters were present with the exception of Joseph, Jr., of Yuma. The sons are Samuel of Mesick, Walter and James of Richmond Township and John Q and Jacob of Chase township. The four daughters are Mrs. Rebecca Marlow and Mrs. Mary Seager of Richmond township, Mrs. Louisa Bluhm of Chase township and Mrs. Caroline Morse of Leroy. Germany was the birthplace of the bride of fifty years ago, which the groom was born in Canada. The bride's maiden name was Miss Caroline Keller, 62 years ago she left her fatherland and joined a brother, Louis Keller, and a sister, Mrs. Christian Dadles, who had come to Canad the year previous. It was on Oct 11, 1864 , that the words were spoken at Galt, Ontario. that united these estimable young folks who in the succeedding years had plenty of opportunity to try out the words, "for better or for worse".
